allergies! i know several cats and dogs that do this (my chihuahua included) and it is due to allergies. i would suggest that you take your cat to the vets for some allergy medicine. your cat is probably miserable with how itchy he is (think about how you feel when you have a HORRIBLE bug bite!)
also, if you dont get your cat to the vets asap he could become permanently bald and his skin can become inflamed, irritated, and infected. Good luck! -
8 years old is kinda old for a cat.
possibility 1 is that he has flea(s) (big ones) that he cannot remove by ’scrapping’ them off his fur, being old and grouchy, he will not tolerate the flea(s) any longer, so off it goes…
possibility 2 is that he is suffering from skin allergies due to old age (just like humans), thus the itchiness made him ‘tearing’ his own fur off. perhaps a visit to the vet will be good idea -
